Anita Pistorius, Optometrist at Kerikeri Optometrists, is originally from South Africa. After qualifying from Johannesburg University, she completed a post graduate certificate in Diagnostic Pharmaceutical Applications. before starting her career at the Pretoria Eye Institute in South Africa. After a few years running her own practice in Melkbosstrand and ready for a change, Anita, husband Gerhard, and their two children emigrated to New Zealand in 2008.
Anita then completed an Optometry Competence Certificate for New Zealand and Australia, and several Post Graduate Certificates at the Australian College of Optometry, including Behavioural Optometry and Advanced Contact Lens Fitting, specialising in Keratoconus and Ortho-K. She also became an Accredited Ocular Medicine Prescriber which means she can prescribe eye drops for infection and disease. After a stint in Auckland, Anita worked as a locum optometrist and in 2016, the family moved to Kerikeri to take a role at Lowes & Partners Optometrists. In 2018 she and Samantha Fleming purchased the practice and rebranded to Kerikeri Optometrists. Since then, they have grown the practice to a team of 8.
In her spare time, Anita enjoys painting and has participated in several exhibitions and has also pitched in to help to paint a few stage sets for local productions.
